Some Unwritten Jury Instructions

I have previously argued that stories, their frames, metaphors and other similar linguistic tools are the unwritten jury instructions during a trial.  Here are some quotes that you can use the next time you want to make a point (in or out of a trial.)

  • “We see the world not as it is, but as we are.” The Talmud
  • “You have heard of Murphy’s law. I follow Morton’s Law – taking everything with a grain of salt.” (author unknown)
  • “To read without reflecting is like eating without digesting.” Edmund Burk.
  • “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics.” Mark Twain.
  • “…if the only tool you have is a hammer, you treat everything as if it were a nail.” (Abraham Maslow)
